i want to pull the stock headlight off and replace it, any one have any advise for getting rid of the rats nest of wires that hide out in the stock headlight?
When I swapped from a top mount headlamp to a bottom mount, I cut off all the connectors and excess wiring, soldered it all up, and wrapped it with electrical tape. Turned out very nice IMO, just time consuming.

so essential removed the connectors and hard wired everything? where did you hide the lump of wires after that?
yea did what nc883 did, lose the connectors, on the older bikes they are a potential headache anyway.
some of the wires can go up under the tank. Keep it as neat as possible use shrink wrap on the soldered wires, tape it up.
Dont do it without a schematic, take pictures, write everything down.
I don't know what year your bike is, the older ones had some wires that came back to the same connector and had jumpers in the connectors so you had for or five wires all wired together.
Also a test light is a must.
