Default tyre size

quick question,i have a 1200c 2001,can i fit a 140/90/16 rear tyre,i was given a new tyre free and was wondering if it will fit,,thanks

The stock tyre is nominally 130mm wide, so your free tyre is 3/16" wider each side. Yes it will fit the rim OK, you just need that extra clearance wherever the tyre comes close to things like mudguard and belt guard.

It depends on the tire brand and model.

The real width and diameter of a tire varies by both brand and tire models within the same brand. As you can see in the chart below, a stock Dunlop 401 150/80-16 is actually wider than a Dunlop E3 160/80-16.

A Metezler 880 140/90-16 will easily fit your bike without a problem, while a Dunlop 401 140/90-16 will not.

I don't think it will fit with a factory belt.
