Unheated and uninsulated garages or sheds are subjected to big swings in humidity during the winter each time the weather warms up. This is likely what caused the high moisture content in the fuel.

Covering the bike with a breathable cover (bed sheet) and placing a 60 watt light-bulb under the bike/cover will help prevent the buildup of condensation on the bike and in the fuel.

As said above, keeping the fuel tank full when storing the bike also helps.

These bikes must be junk....
I try to put Stabil an all my small engines. Usually there's one, I forget to put Stabil in, and I have to get the carbs cleaned.

This year I just started putting premium non ethanol in all my small engines. As gas prices go up, the difference between regular and premium isn't that much.

If you put the Stabil or Seafoam in the gas cans used for refilling the small engines every time you fill the cans, you'll never forget.

I usually do. One reason I went back to Red Stabil, instead of Seafoam, was I couldn't tell if I had treated with Seafoam. And with 5-6 gas cans around I usually miss one. Gotta get more organized!
