Red face Aftermarket battery

I went to my local dealer today to get the 7500 service and I was told that my battery, which I bought in Nov, was weak and that it would die soon. I was told that the Harley batteries are made for Harleys and that the other ones are the same only in size and nothing else.

Is there any truth to this?

I got a battery from Batteries Plus recently and it was around $110. Their battery is made by the same manufacturer as the harley battery. There are many other out there that fit, but are not the sealed AGM type that the stock battery is.

There are lots of aftermarket battery choices out there. I'm running a Yacht CB-16B that I picked up for less than $60, seems to work fine, had it for several years now. I think I'm going with the LiFPO battery when this one dies, save considerable weight and stress on my poor little battery tray, hopefully the prices come down a bit.

So it looks like I don't always have to get an HD battery. The battery that came with the bike lasted 2.5 yrs and only died because I left the key in the ignition. Let's see how long this one last?

1 - Most batteries come with at least a 1 year warranty, did yours?
2 - There is no official 7500 mile service interval, if the dealer is telling you there is, they are ripping you off. After the 1,000 mile service, the next interval is at 5,000 miles and then every 5,000 miles there after. It's in your Owners Manual.

Thanks for the info, I haven't had it serviced since 1000 miles so I figured I might as well get it done now. Thanks for the heads up 5k interval.

Check the voltage and have a load test done. If you do in fact need a new one, check out the Big Crank at Batterymart.com. Amazon has the BC too with free shipping.

I got an AGM battery @ Advanced Auto for $90.00 , some one makes Harleys batteries for them , they just logo them for Harley so they can charge you $140.00 for a $90.00 battery.

We have always done well w/ the HD batteries and not so well w/ aftermarket ones. But everyone is correct someone is making the batteries for Harley but they are very good at keeping their suppliers quiet.
Some of the new Lithium style batteries seem to be gaining steam though.

depending on the bike, truegel batteries are a good choice and i think have a 2 year warranty. Most oem batterys (metric and Ducati) are made by yuasa. it has a less of a warranty but for some reason you wont need to use the warranty compared to other brands.
