Default Suction Cup mount on tank

I have a Garmin Zumo 220 that is custom mounted to my Versys which I use quite a bit on the road.

Instead of buying another Garmin I mounted the suction cup mount to the Sporty tank and it seems fairly secure, anyone use a suction cup mount on the tank? Just curious if the vibration swill eventually knock it loose. I may try and tether it just in case. I know on my Wrangler the suction cup has been on the windshield without any problems.

I don't want to mount it the bars as I'll seldom need a GPS for the Sporty however there will be times I'd like to throw something on quick and go.

I think the tether would be and excellent precaution to take.

Man, I wouldn't trust it. I don't know how many times in my car the Garmin has popped off the windshield and went wangin across the dashboard. Almost out the window a few times.
I used to have a Yamaha R6, I know it's ghetto but I actually used Velcro on the Garmin to hold it onto the tach, it worked great.
I just honestly wouldn't trust the suction cup especially with the vibes of a Harley.
If you use it, a tether would be a good idea as suggested above.
Good luck!

Left the suction mount and Garmin on the tank this morning, when I came home from church look what was on the floor,

Guess I'll buy a separate cradle and use a handle bar mount.

I knew it haha. And that wasn't even with the bike running!
Just buy the handlebar mount. You can always take it off when you don't want it on. Rather safe than sorry.

Yeah, gotta agree with others here... I won't do suction cups on my bike, period. Not fond of velcro either - for one it looks "ghetto" (as someone else pointed out) but the glue on the back in the heat will melt (or cold makes it brittle) with the same result (GPS on road).

You really get your money's worth in this department. The mount is key. For Nuvi there's a lot of options - bar mount, mount to Harley switch housing, there's even a new windshield mount... these are made in USA too.

If a suction mount comes unstuck in a car the gps will stay in the car and probably have a soft landing. You will still have a working gps and no harm will be done. On a bike it will likely self destruct on the road and if you use a tether smash into the tank. There are plenty of mounts available, I got mine from eglidegoodies.

Sunday night I got on the RAM Mounts site and ordered a new cradle as well has the handle bar kit. After having it fall off in the garage I'd imagine I would have gotten 2-3 miles at best before my $400 Zumo was forever gone..........appreciate the responses.
