Check out XLForum.net. There's quite a few peopleover there that have bobbed their fenders. They also have lots of helpful information and are very willing to help.

Bob your own fender. Personally I like them better than the moco's spoiler style rear bob fender. The link you were provided has a step by step on how to bob your own fender.

Bobbed my own. Bought a used rear fender and tank off ebay. Put my 100th anniversary tins in the closet and went at it.

Pic in my sig.

Hey midwest, any idea if a detachable backrest will work with your rear fender/brakelight setup? I am gathering parts at this point and in the spring I will be doing mucho modifications. (12" ape hangars, bobbed rear fender, taillight module for rearturn signals, side mount license plate, remove front signals, possible jockey shift but money is currently out). My wife rides with me pretty regularly, bar hopping no back rest isn't a problem, but for long weekend rides she wants a backrest, I am deciding if I want to get the same style taillight you have or just use the module for the rear turn lamps and turn them into my brake lights. The decision will be made based on whether or not a backrest will clear the brake light or not.

A detachable backrestshould still work with stock turn signal locations. My turn signalswere moved back because the prevous owner had saddlebag supports back there. Because of where I cut my fender, I utilized the hole that was used for the rear seat mount (for the 2-up seats) when mounting the tailight.
I'm running the Kuryakyn run-brake-turn signal module on mine too.
