Default Changing the clutch cable?

Please bare with me, i do have a factory service manual, ive read it over and over but i guess im just not good at understanding it, i just installed some 12" apes, i got all the wiring in the bars done, im stuck on the throttle and clutch cables, does the end of cable the just "unhook" from under the derby cover? Or do i have to take other stuff apart?
Same with the throttle cables, it looks simple, but im afraid im going to somehow mix them up or something, sorry if all this sounds stupid, but im really tryin to learn to work on this myself.
Thanks for any and all info.

I guess im asking is there enough slack in the clutch cable to just "unhook" it from inside the primary?

I’m not sure how your bike is designed, but, to disassemble the clutch cable on my ’96 Sportster requires removal of the derby cover. You can also remove the cable at the clutch lever. Doing so involves adding slack by first adjusting the cable per your manual.

I did it when I swapped bars early last year and it was easy. Go slow, and keep track of where things came from.

IIRC, you remove the derby cover, then unscrew the screw in the middle and take out the hex nut and the piece that sits over the thing that holds the end of the clutch cable. That'll give you enough slack to remove the end of the clutch cable and re-hook the new one. Put things back in their place, button up, done.

It sounds harder than it is. Just pay attention to where things came off from and how they went together and you'll be fine.

And be very careful not to overtighten the clutch cable nut where it screws into the primary cover.

I think he intended to say derby cover. You shouldn't need to remove the entire primary cover.

Went very smooth, got the cable done in no time...its that freaking derby gasket that WILL NOT STAY ON!!!.....it just keeps falling out of the slot.

Use a little grease to hold the quad ring for the derby cover in place.

Should oil it if you're re-using it. Lube it up and it should stick just fine.
