Default Sportster carb question!

Will a Mikuni 40mm carb work on my sportster 1200, it came off a Ski Doo MXZ 600. I'm not very familiar with carbs as I'm working on my first bike now so I'm mainly wondering if there is a major difference from aquatic vehicles to road vehicles.

Any input would be appreciated!

I think most jetski carbs are built so engine can be inverted and still keep running, even standing on end. Not sure how they do it, but you might contact Mikuni and see what they recommend.

It may be cheaper to just buy a stock CV40 on Ebay. Not sure how much they go for, but there has to be a few out there for sale.

Default Thans for the Help

Can anyone verify that this carb will fit on my sportster 27429-00B? As far as I can tell just about any 40mm carb will fit my bike, but I'm new to this and looking for some input.

I wouldn't bother trying to use a carb off another vehicle, as you could end up replacing many parts in an attempt to make it work. That Keihin is much more likely to work, with minor adjustments and is intended for a Harley.

Buy a stock CV and jet it for your application - you'll spend more $$ and have more headaches adapting something that may or may not work OK.

Since you haven't told us what Sportster you have, how would we know?

The CV 40 carbs are pretty much interchangeable. The one you listed is for a 2000 and later Softail Big Twin motor, but that just means it will need to be re-jetted for the smaller Sporty motor.

Make sure your carb fits the intake manifold too, don't want an unexpected "surprise" when you're trying to get it back together.
