Talking test rode a 13' 883 Iron today...

Thank you Green Mt. Harley!! They are the absolute best HD dealership I have encountered (in my limited experience with Harleys). Candy orange- loved the color (I'm a sucker for orange), loved the fit (I'm 5'4" 138lb), loved the linear power (seemed to make up for the lack of quite nicely). Seems to have risen to the top of my short list for a second bike. Kinda ruled out Sportsters a long time ago (3 decades maybe) and then this one comes along and really jumps out at me. It's a relief to be attracted to the lower end of the prices from a manufacturer rather than my usual higher end from a manufacturer. Got room in the garage for one more without kicking the truck or car out, whatcha think? 55 years old and only a motorcycle (or the anticipation of a new one) can still excite the senses and occupy the brain so much (literally!). Gotta have a dream guys!

Really fun bikes. Lots of revs, lots of shifting. You won't regret it. I bought my 883 Sportster after my Softail and it seems I ride the Sportster more. The Iron is a super sharp lookin' bike, too.

Took a test run on a '12 BBP Iron last summer...got the same bug bite, but the Federal Government's pretty shaky w/$$$ right now so might need to retain the ca$h for survival...later.

Good luck w/your bike ventures.

I got one at 53. Never looked at owning a sporty before. But when looking for a new ride the Iron fit my price range. That and I love to change things so why by a hi end ride just to change it. I love my little sporty and ride it everyday I can.( when it's not raining)

I picked up my Sportster up at 54. I'd been riding much bigger bikes for a long time and will never go back, these things handle and perform great and are a much better fit to my riding style. Enjoy !!

Green Mt. Harley gave me a copy of their accessory catalog. After thumbing through (numerous times) it looks like just over $700 in extras to bring to the negotiating table- 1)detach solo rack with 2)mounting hardware 3)single sided saddlebag 4)downtube bag 5)3rd running/ brake light (led)6)and a shop manual for a start. Not bad considering when I was looking at a 2011 Road King (in Sedona orange) the accessory list was closer to $3 grand! Even at list price for everything, taxes included, it would be a couple tics over $9 grand. For me, sure beats $21-$22 grandfor the RK.

Definitely a lot more affordable than the Touring bikes. Used parts are plentiful too. Check out the classifieds here on the forum and ebay.

PM me before your trip to Plattsburgh and I'll put some 2 lane icing (not RT3) on your trip. RT3 is almost freeway like in comparison. Changes from Tupper Lake on. If I'm available I'll meet in TL. If not, I'll give you details.
