Default Exhaust flange "inside counterbore"

I'm in the middle of re-installing my exhaust pipes and my service manual says, "Position flange so the inside counterbore faces cylinder head exhaust port."

Does that mean to put the flat side of the flange against the exhaust port? I mean, it only goes on one way, right? I never removed the flange off the pipe.

Thanks!

I believe they are talking about the inside of the flange edge that is beveled goes toward the head....it looks right the way you have it..

If you didn't take the flange off the pipe you have nothing to worry about. That only refers to the direction the flange is facing when it is installed onto the pipe.

Thanks for the clarification. It was very helpful.

Also, when I pulled the pipes off, I didn't even see the gaskets. I thought, "WTF"? I then did the google and saw an earlier thread that noted that these things are kinda hidden in the port. I pulled them out with a set of needle-nose pliers, per the advice of that thread. I then put in a set of new ones before re-installing the pipes.
