I had a quote done on a se 883 to 1200 convo. The mechanic and the service dept manager had to assist the writer in the quote. Total turn off for me. Maybe the mech knew his **** and could've done a good job, but the "man"ager wanted to sell me parts not listed on the HD website required for the kit and istall. Seemed like a $ grab. Maybe I'm new? Factory recomended services I guess for for me will be done at the dealer, but def overpriced and underknowledged for most other mods!
I disagree. They don't know dick about anything. They couldn't find their dick if you pulled their zipper down and yanked their dick out and put their hand around it. Hence, I don't have any use for them. They are like street cops. They are there to do the paperwork.

Hence I always say we need to talk to the tech first then tell the service writer what to write up.

Isn't that a lot of effort WRT just picking up the wrench, a service manual, and do it yourself?
Related to watching, I remember the sign in the shop of a gunsmith I used to go back then. Labor cost: $50/h , $90/h if you watch, $120/h if you talk
