No need for 6th gear in a sporty, thev've done a good job with gearing and the power band. Ever heard of anyone blowing up a Sporty because they were going 75 on the freeway?

It's usually when I'm going past 75, that I'm really looking for that next gear.

This is my first bike and its just like driving a great stick. Once I slip into 50+ the throttle just relaxes and opens up. I can just crank it and she screams without the need to shift again. Getting to 75 or 90+ is not an issue and just happens naturally it seems.

Thank you all for answering. Seems the crowd is pretty much split on the value of FI vesus carboration. I was hoping for a one sided vote.... So other than the addition of FI in the 07 sportsters, is there anything else that would sway your opinion one way or the other when it comes to buying an 06 or an 07 model? There is a decent discount for buying a left over 06 compared to an 07.

The discount would sway me. Some sportsters are 2K off and I would never say that price difference is worth the EFI. What kind of deal are you talking about on an 06?

If you want an 07 883, what might sway you is that in 07 they receive the same cams as the 1200's for more power. The power of the 1200's stays the same.

I havent signed any papers yet but the quote I have been given is $5800 for a black 06' xl883. We are haggling over the trade in value of my 06' honda CB 599. Which sportser model is 2k off?I would be motivated by that indeed and wouldalso like to discuss it with the dealer. They never mentioned anything like that at all. I have been looking at the standard 883 and the 883R and I am not sure what the difference is besides cosmetics. What justifies the $1,100 difference on the 07 models?

$5800 is a very good price if it's new. You're a patient negotiator, I would've signed already.

You can actually buy a 6th speed gear kit from JP it's made by Baker. It's about 1500.00 to 2000.00. I haven't decided if I want it bad enough yet. Tax return is coming and it's burning a hole in my pocket already.

$5,800 is a pretty good price. Just keep in mind, if you think you might trade the bike, as far as re-sale, it's a year old.

Thats a very good price for an 06... one thing I found out is the 07's have a low fuel light haha I am sure THAT will sway you... seriously I am enjoying the FI my old 883 would always cough and sputter for some darn reason or another and that is a thing of the past with the 07
