Default RE: 1250 upgrade question

Thanks for the info! Now I gotta decide whatI want to do for the heads. I am starting to lean towards just buying the stock XB/1200R heads from NRHS for $709. I read somewhere that they would be like having a stage 1.5 job done to the 883 heads. The good thing is i can always upgrade the heads to stage 1 2 or 3 later if i wanted and they would still be better than 883 heads. I could also use the 10.5:1 flat top pistons but I'm wondering if they would be reliable enough to use with 91 octane or not. I want theengine to be fast but iwant it to be reliable also.
I'm ready to buy so I'll give NRHS a call Monday morning. If anybody else has any tips let me know.

That's a good question. We have 87, 89, and 93 around here. I personally wouldn't run higher compression than 10.5:1 on an air-cooled street bike. I think it should be fine, but I really don't know. The best would be to ask NRHS.

Also, I wouldn't trade my rubbermount 883 heads for solidmount 883 heads. If you ever want to go with more agressive cams, then you will need to change out the springs and that just adds additional cost. The valve train in the 04 bikes is better from a performance standpoint. It does have looser tolerances, though, so it may wear out sooner. Time will tell.

Oh trust me I'm not gonna go with the older 883 heads. If NRHS just had some 04 or newer 883 heads it would be a done deal now. [&:]

Is it really worth the extra $250 for the 1250 vs the 1212 kit???Is it only going to be an extra 5 or so HP, or is it a good bit more???

NRHS posted on another site it is good for about another 5% power over the 1200 kit. While not a huge difference I would just like to go with it over the 1200 kit asI don't have to send my cylinders in to get them bored out and that saves a little on shipping so it makes the difference a little closer. Besides it just sounds cooler to say you have a 76 cubic inch motor instead of a 74
Here's the thread where NRHS said that http://www.xlforum.net/vbportal/foru...ad.php?t=40671
