Just curious XLOCD, you had the 1200 conversion what all did that include? Did you get any head work done or cams? What is the fastest you have been on yours and are you satisfied with the quickness? You got your conversion kit from NRHS right?

Sorry for all the noob questions I'm just excited to get this kit in and running and want to make sure I'm doing it right.

Does the conversion kit also include the higher compression 1200 heads?

Also, I see you have a windshield and bags, so you must be doing some long (relatively) distance riding. You'll appreciate the higher gearing (29 vs the 28 tooth front) and still have great gobs of low-end with 1200.
Nope it is extra for the heads. You just use the stock 883 heads with the 1250 kit which includes the iron lined aluminum cylinders, pistons and rings gaskets etc. It has a 10:1 compression ratio and the kit is $750.

I usually cruise between 70 and 80 mph and the longest ride I have been on is a 400 mile ride in one day. The vibration didn't bother me much at all so I'm gonna try the stock 28 tooth first and see how i like it.

Is this documented anywhere? I too was under the impression that the limits were approx 5600 (883) and 6000 (1200)... at least on the 06's.
You had people mention the owner's manual and it is in there. It is under the section called "Operating Recommendations". Use the index to find the page number in your 06 manual. Here is a dyno run of an 883 (stolen/posted from another forum) of a stage 1 883 sportster pulling to 6K rpm.

but then diablo 666 said that a 1200 module would increase the rev limit. Which is it?
Diablo is probably talking about the screaming eagle ignition, which has a higher rev limit than 6K rpm. I think the current SE ignitions have 7K rpm, but there have been ones in the past that had limits of 8K rpm. 8K rpm was esentially no rev limit because you bike would blow up before reaching 8K rpm. Even with the bike at a 1200 I wouldn't spin it over 6-6.5K rpm since it probably won't be making power beyond that.

I would probably go over 100 very rarely so more bottom end grunt would be nice, just trying to figure out what the top speed would be with 883 gearing. Anyone know how to figure this out?
I already told you the top speed of your 883. It will be 110 mph. The top speed of a 1200 will be 125 mph.

yesI know you told me butI wanted to know how they figured that out by the gear ratio whichI figured out from the sitesI listed.
Thanks for that 883 dyno link, I also foundthis dyno sheet on the NRHS site on the page where the 1200/1250 upgrade kits are sold.It also shows a stock 2004 883 hitting 6000 rpm. And thanks ****** for looking it up in the manual. And thank anyone else for any other info before i forget them.

I WISH I got the NRHS 1250 kit. I ended up getting $1000 in store credit at HD and had them just to a regular 1200 kit w/ SE pistons. 1250 is the way to go. I've also got the SE .551 cams, and I had NRHS do the Stage II headwork and I got my TC88A from them. Satisfied with the quickness? YES! The fastest I've had mine is a little over 100... I wasn't watching the speedo at that point. Really, it gets pretty damn uncomfortable at that speed w/ forward controls, drag bars, and a 1/2 helmet... probably not too smart either. The bike could've gone faster, but knowing I had a pregnant wife kept me from going faster (no, she wasn't with me... thinking aboutmy responsibilitieshere ).

I will say again though, that it's the packagethat you put together. For me, it's a conversion, heads, cams, and ignition... that allows you to get the most out of the extra displacement and flow.

Hmm. I wish I had the money to get the heads done but I'm pushing it now getting the kit and install. I'm planning on a 3000 mile tour through the south with some other guys in June and that is gonna cost around $1000 plusI have to pay the IRS around $900 so money is kinda tight now. [&:]
I'm just planning on doing the 1250 kit alone. I asked NRHS if they thought putting a cam in would be a good idea and they told me that without headwork the cams wouldn't really give me much soI am holding off on it as well.I guessI can always go back later when i strike it rich and get the heads and cam installed.
Do you have any dyno numbers XL OCD?

Yeah, they're guiding you right. You'll be happy w/ the 1250 kit, and then do the cams and heads the next time you come up with $1000.00 Me, no Dyno numbers... I'm trying to save up the $200... so I know where you're coming from.

Might want to hold off on tearing into the engine until you have all the parts you want. If you do the labor yourself, it might be worth it, but if not, you will be paying twice to open the motor up. I have a hard time believing that the 1250 kit will give you much with stock 883 heads and cams...sure a little bump in both Hp and torque, but the $$$$ is in head work, then cams that are profiled to match your riding style, rpm range, etc. Then carburetion/EFI tuning to get it right on!

I'll find out soon enough traveler. According to NRHS who makes the kit I should see close to a doubling of horsepower and torque from the kit alone. Look at the dyno chart I posted from NRHS above. Of course I would gain more from heads and cams but this might just be plenty for me. I can always do the heads and cams later if need be. I will be having the carb retuned after the install.

This is the kit I am intending to get when I do my motor, which probably won't be till next winter possibly now. I am planning to do a 1250 kit, with stage 2 1200 heads, .536 cams, and a Daytona TT88. This combo should be good for 90-100hp depending on the tune. 100hp is my goal when I actually do the motor. Definately a good company to use if you want a kick *** sporty though.
