Default Truth or bs - screaming e pipes unstamped (?)

Recently bought an XL 1200C.
I was told at the dealer that the bike had SE's
Geez can these guys smell noob.! Or is it because I'm a chick?
So I check out SE's online (these pipes look very similAr to a buddy's stock pipe- but the sound is much louder than stock)! My buddy states, " the guy (I bought it used) took out the baffle)thus the louder sound". Which, makes more sense as the pipes are not stamped anywhere.

The old guys who sit outside the dealer and know the guy who had the bike before me, say they're SE's - but that they're old school pipes and aren't stamped - um, ok ... But this is a 2011 so how old school pipes are fitting on a new bike??? IDK.

Are there SE pipes that are unstamped?
They aren't crazy loud but nice loud.
Is there something else I should be looking at to tell what these are or aren't or just stock without a baffle ?

Welcome to the boards, have fun on your Sporty.

My "old school" 1991 SE slip on mufflers are stamped (the rear one) with a script "Harley-Davidson" clearly on the outside. The front muffler has the EPA information stamped on the inboard side, you might check for those markings. My stock mufflers were a bit longer than the SE slipons as well, maybe an inch or more.

Personally, I think the HD stamp looks stupid, but I got them when I was hit by some kook and his insurance paid for them. Maybe you got lucky and they somehow got off the narcissistic labelling. I'd prefer the lack of HD stamped on everything.

The oem mufflers will have a part number
stamped into them, usually towards the bike
on the inward side of muffler. If they are OEM then tell the sales
guy/girl he/she lied!! Then ask for $250 in store credit to make things right.
Get tough!

Yes, posting a few pics of the pipes will put this to rest.

Since it's a rubber mount, I think they would be at the oldest, from 2004... I wouldn't call that old scool. Could be another brand tapered muffler, there are aftermarket companies making tapered style slip ons. Khrome Werks and Cycle Shack are two of them, neither have stamps that you can see looking at the top or side of the muffler. Cycle Shacks are pretty loud though.

Do the mufflers have a stamp with a bunch of EPA info?

I don't recall the year of the change, but sometime mid 2000's (2005?), Harley changed the performance exhaust pipes from SE's to SE II's to meet the increased EPA BS. The original SE pipes were louder and flowed better than the newer SE II's. There are people that still look long and hard to find a set of the original SE pipes.

Sounds like you are happy with the bike, it runs and sounds good. So why are you hung-up on whether the pipes are SE or not?

A quick check to see if the baffles have been removed, insert a broom handle into one of the mufflers and see how far it goes.
