I have a stock 2001 XL883 with the ugly, easily-seen crossover pipe and would like to upgrade to the 2004-later exhaust with the "hidden" crossover pipe. I've spent a considerable amount of time here searching all exhaust/muffler-related threads looking for the answer to my question without success. I would expect the newer pipes to fit the '03-earlier bikes, but what about the mounting brackets? I don't believe my 2001 has an O2 sensor, and if I'm correct, what year did they begin using them? I don't want to purchase used pipes that are fitted with an O2 sensor if my bike doesn't need them.

 

O2 sensors came 2007, rubbermount came 2004, probably you can customize the mount.

 

I have looked into doing the same thing, it seems that it can't be done off the shelf...ie you will have to make it work by making a bracket or whatever....let me know if you figure it out as I would like to do the same for my 00 hugger

 

You just need to make a mounting bracket. All else should fit, if it has 02 bungs, you can get plugs for those.
