It's the perfect combination of performance, looks, price, quality, and versatility. It really can't be beat. Nothing else does everything as well.
Ditto...

1) High"thrill-per-dollar" ratio

2) Sized just right for a wimp like me; not too big, not too small

3) It kicks A$$ just sitting there, more when it's on the road

CONCLUSION: It is the coolest bike that Harley makes. Just my opinion, though.[sm=biker.gif]

You all pretty much put things the way I think. I wanted a bike. Not a house boat on 2 wheels. Nothing wrong with the big bikes, just not me. I just can't see riding around with a 52 inch tv and a hot tub connected to my bike. Just want the bare bones in my face type stuff. If I wanted all the saddle bags, windshield and the like, I'll drive my car.

What's wrong with bags and a sheild on a Sportster? I gottem and it aint no car. This is a car

I'm a little different than the other above, but I agree with them. My friend owned the Sportster that I now own. He wouldn't let anybody ride it except me, and I had to wash it before I brought it back. It was the first Harley I ever rode. I fell in love right away. I had been riding a Honda CB750 before that. The difference was like night and day. I told him if he ever sold it I wanted it. In 1999 he let me know he was ready to sell. I bought. I still love it. End of story. I don't think I'll ever sell it. I hate washing it.

I could have bought any model they make, but chose the Sportster for all the reasons XL OCD said... couldn't have said it better.

You obviously don't plan on traveling much or racking up a lot of miles, which is fine, but here comes a time when youwill change your mind if you are a rider. I rode a Sporty with no bags or shield as my main ride for7 years and put 40k on it. I got wet lots, cold lots, and couldn't really travel like I wanted to. A trip solo to the beach 350 miles away was a chore. Bungee cords and duffle bags will only hold so much.

Now, I have bags, a shield, a detachable rack and a nice luggage bag. Two-up week long trips, even camping, are a joy. I've put 64k on in 6 years. I don't miss those days of getting caught in the rain, not having a place to carry junk, and having a stiff neck at the end of the day from the wind blowing my head around.

I did about 18k last year and so far this year, not much I can't do on the Sporty except take a lot with me, that is what should determine what Family of HD ya get into, nothing else, Style of Ridin.

Awe well. Maybe some stuff. But not toomany accessories. My sister tells me to get a windshield. I'd rather have a sissy bar! Saddle bags? Don't know.
