Sporty out Performs a Touring Bike
Ok, here's a story for any of you that catch crap about a Sportster being "Half a Harley" etc etc.
I was on a Patriot Guard escort mission late last night. The ride was pretty much all interstate, and about 80 miles each way. As usual, we had a police escort and speeds were in excess of the Speed limit.
With the accordian, or slinky, effect that is inhearant when riding in a group, at times my riding buddy and I reached speeds close to 100 mph. He was riding an 07 Street Glide. About 65 miles into the trip, I started noticeing what seemed to be bugs on my goggles. Well, it's WAY too cold to be hitting any bugs around here. So, I was curious what was on my goggles. Then when we got off the Interstate, I smelled hot oil. As I started to shift gears in route from the interstate to the funeral home, my foot was slipping on the gear shift when upshifting. Once we arrived, my riding partner had oil all over the side of his chaps and boots. Upon further inspection, I had oil all over my boots and it was motor oil that had gotten sprayed on my goggles. We went back outside to the bikes, and there was a large puddle of oil under his bike. We traced the oil leak to the air cleaner. I didn't know the BT bikes also have the blowby oil leak issue. Thankfully, it didn't leak enough oil to need more added, as it was after midnight, in a small rural TN town. On the return trip, we stopped after about 40 miles to check his oil. All was fine. He was pretty pi$$ed off, but his comment was "I guess it was just the high speed that caused the oil to leak through the air cleaner."
My Little Sportster handled the high speeds just fine! muuuaahhhahaha
Now he's a great friend of mine, and he has NEVER had anything but nice things to say about my Sportster, so I didn't give him a hard time about it. And in general, I've never really had a problem with people talking down about my bike.
But, for those of you that do get those comments....you can use this story asammo for a responseto fire back..

And............ ?
I was waiting for a 'punch line'.. LoL...
Guess any bike can blow oil if it isn't set up correctly, or if the tank is overfilled, if there is some restriction, etc....
But......
My Sportster doesn't blow or use oil, and my Big Twins don't either.
