Default Hard To Reach Exhaust Bolt

Hey guys,

I've installed torque cones on my drag pipes (along with Screaming Eagle gaskets) and I'm having trouble to properly tighten the right bolt on the front exhaust port - none of my tools give me a good grip or have access to the bolt and I can't use the torque wrench.

Any solution to properly tighten this bolt? I can hear a slight exhaust leak and unusual engine noise.

I have an 2002 883C.

Thanks!

Vincent

I would not worry about the torque wrench, it's only about 10lbs anyway, just a firm hand tight. Try an open end or box wrench.

Be gentle, use some anti seize compound.

I had the same issue when I install my new exhaust. I went to Harbor Freight and bought a set of wobble extensions and now have no issues at all.

You can also use a 1/2 hand wrench as opposed to a socket.

I just use the good ol' combo wrench on that one. Can't fit a ratchet back there. For tightening it down, just make sure it looks to have about the same protrusion of the stud as the other one. They should be the same length stud and bolt, so they will look identical installed.

I took a 1/2" box wrench and cut the sucker in half down the middle to get to that front one. Works every time.

1/4" drive sockets work for me, they're smaller and have thinner sidewalls than 3/8" or 1/2" sockets. Used with a 1/4" universal and extension makes it easy.

I just use a box wrench ... never occurred to me there is a problem with it.
