Default Sportster exhaust fitment question?

I bought a 2009 Sportster used, previous owner put some aftermarket pipes on that Im thinking about changing. Shopping for new parts I have few questions, one I cant seem to find the answer for...

Whats the difference between exhaust systems for pre-2004 and post-2004? Is it simply the 02 sensor ports or did the size change or what? The pipes I have now have the ports for the 02 sensor, but they are plugged... is that normal for this year bike?

Sorry for the questions, Im kinda confused with all the options out there.

Prior to 2004, the engeine was solid mounted; from 2004 it is rubber mounted. Different mounting brackets for the exhaust.

Sportsters have been fuel injected since 2007 which brought about O2 sensor ports. If your bike is a 2009 it has O2 sensors, they are just not connected.

Ok, thanks! Aside from the mounting bracket, is it safe to assume the mounting points on the actual exhaust itself to be different as well? By that, I mean, that if I have the bracket, can an older exhaust fit?
