Default Clutch Slippage & Dragging

Obviously I'm new, but Could someone explain to me the meaning of when the clutch slips and when it drags. I'm not sure of the terminology.

Slipping means when your clutch is engaged, it's still loose, or "slipping." Burned clutch plates or poor clutch screw adjustment possibly. Disintegration of spring plate can cause this as well.

Dragging is when you pull in the clutch lever, and it's still feeling like it's slightly engaged, or "dragging." Hard to put into first gear, or it still wants to move with clutch lever pulled in. Most likely a clutch adjustment issue.

That's my interpretation of clutch terminology.

Ride minimally till you get this sorted out, there is a problem with the sportster clutch, if it comes and goes or wont stay adjusted the spring plate is the problem.

I suggest you replace it if you are anywhere near 20,000 miles, it could get quite costly. loose the spring plate with aftermarket clutch or SE unit.

Good luck,
