The 6 and the 8 don't match the font that is on the cans either. If you look on the case the 6 looks more like an upside down 9 (the gap between the bottom of the 6 and the top loop are different than the ones on the cans. Also the 8 on the case has the same size upper and lower loops where as the cans have two different size loops in its 8s. Could it be they don't match because the cans were made one place and the case in another? But granted it does look like it was ground down and restamped to sell hot bike/engine or parts.

The font not matching is a very common thing from those years. As far as the cans not matching the case..its a 68, probably been torn down and built up more than once over the past 44 years.
