No electric start and I have the scraped up shin to prove it -- foot slipped I don't know anything about the tranny, but the engine was either new when the bike was re-built or it was re-built, because it was registered in British Columbia with the OD at about 3 miles. No miles have been put on since.

I didn't have the ***** to take this thing out when I was visiting the folks, but the part of me that has never ridden a hardtail, or a bike with suicide clutch and jockey shift really wants to give it a go. I suspect my in-laws will bring this ride to me in the spring to sell it for them (they live in a small community, I live in a thriving metropolis). If that happens, I may jerry-rig a hand-clutch to use at stops and give this baby a run!

Thanks for the info.

Thank you all for your help with this! From comments, I think I've found this is clearly not a Sportster. I think I need to take this over to the Custom or Classics forums so I'm not adding flack to the Sportster group.

Ride safe.
Cheers.

ricopoco,

Just wanted to say thanks for the sig pic, I used to live in Bellingham in the late 90's and I recognize that view. I miss Mt Baker.

As for the bike, try to ride it as is.

My guess is a mid to late 70's Shovel. Dual disk came out in the later part of the 70's. An electric start is easy to do if you have the correct inner/outer primary and the oil tank will permit. 35mm fork tubes is what they had in the late 70's with those calipers. Aftermarket frame. Easy to put the bike back to a side shifter but parts are getting hard to come by. With a freshing up this is a very nice bike provided you want a rigid frame. This is what they did in the 70's and the bike is light weight with a great sound of the shovel. Since you have the room in your garage, a great stable mate if you have the time to spend on the bike in the winter months.
