While you are sitting on the bike and the bike is up straight, pull the plug by your right thigh. On my 83 there are 2 lines on the shaft of the plug. The oil is supposed to be between the two lines.
In the picture I posted below, the drain plug is chrome and almost dead center of the picture.

That sounds like an aftermarket one. According to my factory service manual whichcovers 79-85, they allare supposed to have 2 lines. On mine, the top line(full line)goes 1" into the oil tank, and the bottom line(add line) goes3" into the tank. Hopefully that will help. My manual says that 1980's oil tank have 4 quart capacity...(my 83 has 3 quart capacity).

Thanks. Like you, I'm not a big fan of chrome either. Too much cleaning required for my taste. I like those flames that you have.

AND YOU LIKE MY FLAMES. oowowoowwowowoowowwowwoaaaaaaaaaaaaawwhhwhoaooahh. can't believe that one. don't say that to loud around here, my flames tend to make people get a little crazy, and mad. but anyway thanks bro. i really appreciate it. i got an airbrush for christmas and i'm trying to learn how so when i get out of the Marine Corps i'll have ahobby that also pays some of the bills.

thanks again,

I don't see any pics of that 1980 you bought. When are you going to post some?[8D]
