Default Are Baffles necessary?

I was told bikes with the stock muffler system have something like a scavenger system and that I could remove the baffles and not loose HP. Is this wrong?

They're certainly necessary when getting it inspected here in Texas. Recently got it inspected and put them in. I realized as I was riding that it was torquier and smoother so I have left them in. Doesn't feel like the roll on or top end has been affected but I don't normally ride over 80 very often.

Without the baffles you will lose some low and mid range power.

However, you can remove the baffles and put in some Thunder Torque Inserts. The TTI's will not do much at all to quiet it down, but you will have more power throughout the entire RPM band than you do with the baffles in.

baffles cause back pressure which intern helps create the torque , this is what gives you the off the line grunt and midrange pull , after about 70 mph or so (higher revs), HP takes over and as long as you have enough petrol and air going through the engine you will notice a bit more top end power , if you completely remove the baffles you will loose some mid range performance , you may also run dangerously weak and burn you pistons (weak = hot)
you don't mention a fuel mod on your bike , with the SE slip ons and the K&N filter , you should be looking here to get the best out of your bike , you could then do a straight through exhaust system and increase the petrol mix to give it both mid range and top end improvements ... speak to an experienced tuner and see what they recommend for your bikes spec

I have not had baffles in my bike for a few years now and it pulls like a train, from idle to rev limiter, but I did have my PCIII tuned for the open pipes.
