Default New rider seeking help on starter.

I have a 2006 Harley Sporster Coustom, has 32,000 miles, when I go to start it the starter will hang, then will start the motor. Is that anything to worry over? And when I drive the bike for a while I am hearing a winding sound that sound like its from the tranny, the previous owner had the bike sitting for about 9 months. Changed the oil, cleaned the plugs, and cleaned the throttle body.

And any tips on it would be helpful as I am a new Harley owner.

Not sure on the starter issue but check the primary chain adjustment as far as the whining sound goes.Almost sounds like it may be too tight.

Hesitant starter is not uncommon. My bike does it half the time and i have heard lots of Harley's at the dealer or wherever do the same thing.

As far as noise goes, these engines make a lot of noises. When I switched from a 3/4 to 1/2 helmet I heard all kinds of noises I had never heard before. 10000 km later it still sounds the same and runs great.

Who said there was a 2 to 3 second pause? If a starter is hesitating that much I would certainly say something is not right.
