Default 2002 883c mini ape question

I know this has been gone over multiple times, and I HAVE searched and read multiple posts, but I still have no definite answer. I have a 2002 883c with the factory 6" riser. The riser is straight, no pull back to it at all. I would like to put a set of bars from a dyna on my bike using the factory riser. Some people call the dyna bars 10", Harley lists them as 8"s, but anyhow, I would like to know what length cables to buy. I see the Burley Brand kits have a 12", 14", and a 16" kit. They base theirs off a 2" riser.

I have mocked up the bars in my triple, and I have measured my cables and hoses..but there is so much conflicting info on this subject that it drives me crazy! Some people say that they have been able to use their stock stuff, some people had to order +6 on everything. I dont get it. There has to be someone that has done this, and remembers what they used for lines and cables.

I know that if I went +6 on everything, that I would have plenty of room, but I also dont want a big dangling clutch cable flopping around, and a ton extra of throttle cables to try to hide.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Default mini apes

I just installed 14inch burly mini apes on my 99 sporty. I got the 14 inch wire kit. All I needed from the kit was the clutch cable and the throttle cables everything else wire wise was fine. The clutch cables sucks ***.....it very sticky and anything but smooth. Ill be replacing it soon. I e-mailed burly, they never responded back. The cables are all waaayyyy too long. If I did it over I'd order the 12 inch wire kit if I even ordered from them again.... the bars are great though. The amount of extra cable is stupid. PM me if you have any question or want me to shoot you a pic.

Thanks for the reply NH-JK. I mounted the bars up last night after leaving the local Harley dealer to confirm a few things. First off, I got all the stock cable measurements from them and compared to whats actually on the bike. I have 28.75" throttle cables, 52.75" clutch cable, and 39" brake line/hose. Now I measured all this as I disconnected all my stuff and it seems pretty accurate. I love the look of the bars in the stock 6" riser that came stock on my Custom. From what I measured last night after mocking everything up, I will need a +12 on the clutch and brake cables/line, and a +10 on the throttle cables. This seems about right since the bars have about a 10" rise and a couple inches of pullback. I know it may seem like allot, but that is routing the cables the same way they are routed factory. I realize I could go a little shorter if I moved cables around and strung them a little different, but they were put where they are from the factory for a reason, and I think I want to keep it that way. I just hope that I dont have way to much cable after I order the new ones, and its flopping all over the place....

Even if you have a little extra length its no big deal, you get used to it. Its better to be a bit long than short, you don't want to turn your bars and have the cables stretch and the bike take off on ya. I just posted a bunch of pics last night of my bar transformation.
Good luck!

I emailed a seller of the Burly kits and asked them if they could give me actual wire and hose lengths, they said they couldn't but the 12" kits where 12" over stock, etc. for all kits. That may be true but it sounds like alot of extra length...I would sooner have real lengths or at least list them as +6, +8 etc.

Bars are on! I used the 12"-14" kit from LA Choppers. Came with everything except the wiring to extend the factory harness. No biggie..made my own. Clutch cable is the perfect length. Throttle cables are a tad long, but work. Brake line is a little tighter than I would think it should be, but its not stretched or kinked anywhere. Very happy with the mini apes on top of the factory 6" riser. Feels like a whole new bike again!

Good choice staying away from the Burly kit. I had the exact same experience as NH-JK, only I called their "customer service" and things got ugly before I gave up on trying to get any kind of refund.

Congrats on the new bars.

Done! Used LA kit for 12"-14" over & 10" minis and the lengths were perfect. There was plenty of stock wire to run inside the bars!
