Default Wheel question

I am looking to do a lot to my bike but at the moment i really want to swap wheels. I have an 01 sportster 1200 xlh and i really want a smaller spoked wheel on the front and a spoke wheel on the back. Can I put the same size wheels front and back and could i put 48 or nightster wheels on my bike?

Craigslist or Ebay would be your best bet. Custom wheels and factory wheels from dealers are very expensive. One thing you have to keep in mind is the axle size. I'm not positive or sure of exactly the differences but I think the axle sizes vary from year to year and from model to model (dyna - sportster etc) I'm also looking into changing my solid rear wheel to a spoke wheel and just lightly started research. I';m sure other with more experience and knowledge will chime in. Good luck.

You said you wanted black spoke rims but if you came across chrome ones you can always try to plasti-dip them black. Alot of people have had good results with plasti-dipping rims on both cars and bikes.

When he says Plasti-dip, he means the spray on version of Plasti-Dip. (Just in case you were scratching your head thinking about how much "dip" you would have to buy to completely dip a wheel) Not only will you have to pay attention to the axle size but also the space between your shocks. If you have a skinny wheel and tire you will have to get the same or buy a different set of triple trees to widen get your shocks further apart.

Are your current wheels wire-spokes or cast? If they are wire you could simply have your wheels rebuilt with the size of rim you want, which will get around most of the problems you may have.
