Default The laws on pipes

Hi all. Some of you may remember I purchased an 01 1200c a short time ago. I just took delivery this weekend and got to hear it for the first time. It's loud, it's sweet. But I read the other night on the net that my SE II's came with baffles. I looked and found the holes the bolts go into to hold the baffles, and I can see right down my pipes. So I have no baffles. I live in massachusetts, is this going to prevent me from getting an inspection sticker?
are there any aftermarket baffles I can find?
The bike sounds so good, I love it.

you can go the the ama (american motorcyle association) website. they have asection on the front page that shows the laws for motorcycles in all states. it saved me some tickets ,when i go into oklahoma i have to put my baffles in or get ticketed.

You can go to the below website, pick a State from the pull down menu, and it will show State Statues dealing with on and off road motorcycle equipment, exhaust requirements, etc.

http://home.ama-cycle.org/amaccess/l...t.asp?state=fl

But you need to remember that Counties and Cities can establish their own Noise Ordinances, DB limits, and these local government Ordinances might be much more restrictive than the Statues at the State level. The laws can be different from jurisdiction to jurisdiction within a State.

Normally if you are just 'passing through' a jurisdiction with a more restrictive exhaust/sound Ordinance they will leave you alone if you are in compliance with the State Statues (unless you are making a complete *** of yourself)...

How friendly are you with the local inspection station. Lets just say some are open to custom parts while others are strictly by the book. Technically in MA you'll need the baffles, but we don't always have to get technical. Aaftermarket shop with an inspection bay (especially one that caters to choppers) would be a better bet than a HD dealership.

Here in NY baffles are required. But my mechanic just took mine back out for me when he tweaked my carb and replaced my lower fork sliders...along with a fresh inspection sticker.. I guess its all in who you know.

Basically...if you back off the throttle (to quiet the pipes) around the cops and through neighborhoods you should be fine. Like OFG said, if you are going to be an *** and burrrrapp your throttle all over the place, you are going to get busted.

You can also put eylet screws in your pipes to "fool" all but the toughest of inspections and they wont affect your sound.

In Texas, there are no restrictions. Just have pipes. No baffles required.
