Default Another Problem

So within the 3 weeks of owning this 05 883c theres been several problems. I've worked on this bike more than my previous bike that I owned for 3 years.

While cruising the bike seems like it loses gas flow and the check engine light comes on for bout a half a second then back fires and is usually fine for another minute or two. Sometimes after this happens it will backfire until i let off the throttle then slowly twist the throttle again. It is kinda doing the same thing as it did when the crank position senor was bad (replaced that day after I got the bike) Can my bike of burned up another crank position sensor and this is the start of it going again? I checked all my wiring, grounds, battery terminals, any plugs/connectors, all fuses. Anything you guys can think of or point me in the right direction?

Also when I was trying to diagnose the crank position sensor I went thru the whole fuel system, had the tank off, checked all lines, and cleaned carb. The bike has been running fine for 900 miles. My dad said I was gonna break it from riding it almost 1k miles in 3 weeks lol I guess he was right.

And to top it off my car also broke down today along with my bike. So yeah I have some good luck.

I recently changed the plugs to oem HD plugs gapped at .038-.040

Thanks for reading

Have you checked for Diagnostic Trouble Codes?
Hopefully you cleared any old codes after changing the Crank Sensor. If not, clear all codes and then ride the bike until you get the check engine light again, then check for stored codes.

Checked the codes and I'm losing data to speedometer. The negative battery terminal is loose and I cannot figure out how to acces the bolt on the term. I'm trying to look it up now.

Loose battery cables seem to cause a lot of those types of problems. For some reason, the ground on the back of the engine seems to be prone to corrosion or loosening. I've had my bike 22 years and never had any grounds come loose, but maybe the QC at the factory isn't what it was in the early 1990's.

It was the negative battery terminal being loose. Wow what a PITA it is to un hook the ground on the tranny. It so cramped and tight with a ton of other lines/wires right there. It took me about 2 hours to remove the battery and tighten up the terminals and ground bolts. I used some blue locktite on the threads and got them nice and tight hopefully this doesnt keep happening.
