2003 1200c died at 70mph on the Hwy
Has anyone experienced this problem. I had gas it was very hot out the choke was in. It felt for a moment that I needed to go to reserve but then just died. Stranded and waiting for HD to assist...protocol brought gas and the bike cooled down. Got it started and took off accross three lanes bike was crazy backfiring then died again. Got it towed home...??? Any ideas?

It was really hot in Newport Oregon? What do you call hot?
Before diagnosing anything on a Sporty, always check that BOTH ends of BOTH battery cables are clean and tight.
Now that you have it back home does it start? If so, does it idle OK?
If it cranks but doesn't start, have you pulled the plugs and checked for spark?

Same thing happened on my 03 883 a couple weeks ago. Died when hot a couple times, called tow truck, before truck showed up, bike started, got the tow anyway because I didn't want to get a mile down the road and have another hour wait. Tested the coil with an ohm meter and it was within spec, replaced anyway along with plugs and SE wires because I'm too lazy to put it in the oven and re test it hot. So far so good but it has cooled down here. Time will tell.

What happened to you, happened to me a couple of years ago. Had to get towed and the whole bit. Dealer could "find nothing wrong". When I got it back, I decided to do a little rehab on the battery cables as a result of suggestions on this forum. The negative cable on the engine turned out not to be making solid contact. I removed both battery cables - all 4 ends. Wire brushed them well and all contact areas, applied dielectric grease to all 4 ends and contact points, and very snugly reattached the cables. The problem has not resurfaced and I check those cables for a good connection at least once every year.
Good luck!
