Sportster 48 tuning, torque cones vs baffles??
I have a 2011 sportster 48 it previously had Vance and Hines straight shots and a stage 1 oval air cleaner I decided to switch the pipes to short shots and went with a round air cleaner it already had been flashed with the screaming eagle chip for the previous set up I was wondering if a new flash would be required for the changes I have made? Also considering removing the baffles from the pipes I understand u may loose some low end but with it mechanically effect the bike or would torque cones take care of that? Any help would be appreciated thanks!!

I have an 05 883 with the screamin eagle II slip ons and the previous owner removed the baffles. The bike does sound good but I have zero low/mid range torque. I ordered some DK Customs torque inserts and hoping they will solve my problem. Im new to sportsters and I know you have a fuel injected bike but from what I've read is that you need some type of baffle to provide back pressure. Just my 2 cents, I am no way a pro when it comes to these bikes, just letting you know about my experience with removing baffles. I'm sure the more experienced guys can shed some more light on the issue.
Also I've heard if you do only one mod (a/c or pipes) you dont need to rejet/reflash but if you do both u need some tuning.

Even with the Straight Shots AND Short Shots you are leaving a substantial amount of low and mid range power on the table...taking the baffles out will reduce it even more.
The Thunder Torque Inserts will give you back all the low and mid range power, plus some!
W118's are the best for your set-up.
Torque cones will do little or nothing to help.
Not sure what flash you had, but going from Straight Shots to Short Shots will not make a significant difference in what tune you need. If the HD dealer followed epa regs. then you are still lean and should get some X14iED's or a tuner.
