You can pick up low mile 883s all day for cheap, and the conversion is simple and cheap. At the end of a weekend you end up with a higher compression monster that will eat 1200's (off the line, still need to change the gearing for long legs) that is cheap to insure and register. I did this, and am much happier with my converted bike in comparison to the stock 883 I started with.

Hell, I'll be happy with a 75HP Sporty after the basic 1250 kit.

Mine just got dyno-ed at 65.7hp and 69.8lb-ft at 5500 feet in elevation. That is with a 10.5-1 1200 kit, k&N, and whatever pipes the original owner put on it... Some sort of standard 2 into 2 muffled set-up. But it was running too rich, so those numbers should go up with the new jets that just showed up. That being said, I weigh in excess of 250 and that little bike launches HARD. Skinny little kids on bullet bikes may beat me, but I make them work for it.

With all the hype out there and the different opinions and bigger is better. What’s the bottom line? To me it’s just to have a bike I like and am comfortable with. I just want to “ride” I don’t want to race. I’m 6’1” 215lbs. I totaled a 2012 Triumph America 7/6/12 that was 4 months. I loved that bike. The only reason I am not buying another is because of the dealer. He took me for granted, poor customer service. I’ve been riding for 43 years, I’ve had 9 different bikes and a sportster back in the 70’s. My new 2013 XL1200C will be in the 18th of September. And all I want to do is enjoy the ride, no matter what bike I’m on. I am sure you (at least most of you) will agree it doesn’t really matter what you are riding, but that we are all out riding and having a great time enjoying it.

Soory to hear about your Triumph America, and hope you're OK. Incredible how a lousy dealer can turn you off to a particular brand of bike - and remain in business!

You've got the right attitude, as do most enthusiasts with your quote: "And all I want to do is enjoy the ride, no matter what bike I’m on. I am sure you (at least most of you) will agree it doesn’t really matter what you are riding, but that we are all out riding and having a great time enjoying it." I know that is the way I feel.

Good luck to you, and enjoy your new scoot!

I'd never waste the money trying to make one into what they will never be ie fast motorcycles.

Last time I looked H-D is dominating NHRA Pro Stock...

Gearing my friend gearing. and your yamaha was not a Sportster. I want a Sportster. What Dan said is true. there is absolutely no comparison between a stock sportster and a 90+hp sportster. And did you mean xj-650?
