Holy crap! I've been following some of your posts on your beautiful bike. Where were you riding without a helmet? I got hit two weeks after they passed the helmet law in CA, the back of my helmet was smashed in the accident, it definitely saved my life.
Thank goodness you're alive, hope your rehab goes quickly.
Good Lord, ride safely all of you.

You are lucky to be alive. The amount of protective gear one chooses to wear, or not to wear, is a direct reflection of their attitude towards risk.
I hope you heal up soon and wear good protective gear, if you decide to ride again.
I remember when I was 16, I was driving along in my dad's car, and traffic was slowing down. Cops were directing traffic past a bad motorcycle accident. As I slowly passed the wreckage, I saw a helmetless rider, lifeless, with a big pool of blood around his head. His bike was a crumpled heap. The ambulance was in no hurry, as he couldn't be saved anyway.
That spooked me real good. So even when there was no helmet law in MI,
I always wore one...a 3/4 Bell.
These days, I wear a flip-up Shoei. Plus all the other gear too. I'm just not willing to risk riding without it.

Take care and rest up. The physical therapy is going to be painful but important. I never wore a helmet in Indiana. But in Washington state there is a helmet law. I figure if i have too wear a helmet it mine as well be full face carbon fiber. Plus i wear body armor in my jacket. I work at a hospital and see people in bike accidents in icu and rehab. Take care and get well!
