If you don't care about your back then go for it.

buy some struts and try it....if you don't like it it's easy to put shocks back on

Sorry to thread jack but I had the same question, I have also heard of struts breaking. Seems like something I dont want while I am riding. Anybody have input on this?

Keep the shocks, lots of options as far as length for the look. Lots of options for performance.
Shocks keep the tire on the road, hard tails over bumps bounce, and that is not good.

I switched from shocks + stock seat to struts + spring seat and the ride doesn't feel too much rougher.

Depends on the spring seat you ordered. Some of them will give a better ride than the stock shocks.

Yep, we have had more than a few Customers buy our Beefy Struts after struts they had failed.

I think a spring seat and struts is rideable, even on crappy English roads, go for it. Struts aren't expensive.
