Question help - rocker cover gasket & push rod seal

I had a valve job done and I am in process of assembling. I have service manual but instructions are vague. Any tricks?procedures to keeping the gasket seated in grove of lower and middle rocker cover? cant get it to stay seated before I can put middle cover on.
Also can't seem to keep seal seated in retainer as I install push rod tubes.
Please help, I'm getting frustrated.

Try some thick grease. Not a lot. It's sticky and should help hold those gaskets in place.

Thanks for the advice - I ended up cleaning inside of push rod tube retainers with some 220 grit. I'm guessing it gave the rubber something to grip. All went on straight and true the first time. As for the gaskets, i figured they were a little out of shape and that was what was allowing them not to stay in place, so i lightly stretched here and there until they seated perfectly. I'm up and running
