Default only getting 35mpg on 883 Iron

My gas light comes on about 60 miles to the tank, 1.8 gals, and then I fill up at around 85, 2.4 gals. I can always smell gas when I get on the bike.

It is a 2010 fule injected 883 iron. I am really disappointed in the bike so far, i got a bike for better mpg, and I got it because it spose to get anywhere from 45-50. My dad's bike which is a 883 2006 carbonated, and he gets 115 to the tank and fills up around 2 gals.

anyone have any ideas why I am getting such crappy gas milage, I have treated the bike in all types of ways, from babying it, to riding it just normal. and still the same results.

ty for your suggestions

Not enough information.

The bike is going on 3 years old, are you the original owner?
Is the bike's motor, ECM, A/C and exhaust still stock?
Does it get low mileage if your away from city traffic and just cruising the rural horse country?
Have you taken the bike to a competent mechanic to have the fuel consumption problem checked out?
How many miles on the bike?

i would start by looking for a gas leak. you shouldn't be smelling gas.

+2 on checking for fuel leak. The numbers you sited with your Dad's bike are consistent with the fuel mileage I get on my 06.
