Default New exhaust questions

My new exhaust should be here tomorrow and I was wondering if I will have any problems running it without ecu upgrades.

I got the Vance and Hines twin slash slip on's. I read many things saying that just slip on's should be fine without other upgrades but then I was asking around at the Harley dealership and was told that my bike wouldn't run well without a fuel pack or something similar.

What do you guys think? Will just swapping the slip on's give me trouble?

Just slip-ons shouldn't be an issue. Every bike is different though, so you never know.

agree- you will likely be fine... however imo the bike needs fuel management whether you do anything to the pipes or not! it runs too lean and just seems like a waste of a great engine with the lean setting. i put a techlusion system on mine that allows me to set the fuel with carb like settings. after enrichening the engine this machine performs like a whole different bike. my fav mod by far.

Well I got the Vance and Hines slip on's today and when I opened the box I was pretty pissed to find that the heat shields that were in the description were not the ones pictured at DennisKirk.com. I still installed them and man am I happy I did. They sound amazing. The bike is running great without any ecu upgrades. They sound very mean. I definitely recommend them. I will probably end up wrapping my headers with some DEI wrap or something similar.

Did you want the chrome ones? Wrapped headers would look good with the black slip-ons

I wanted the full black heat shields like in the picture on the Denniskirk website. I figure the black wrap will look just as good if not better. Now I just have to sort through the pros and cons of wrapping my exhaust.

That's normal for a bike without modified engine management, but is not good IMHO!

Stock bikes run very lean to meet EPA regulations, but as wanabe says even a stock bike will benefit from an ecu, to restore air/fuel ratios. It is not just a heat thing, the bike will run better all round, especially with a change of mufflers!

Our bikes are very refined beasties these days and backyard tuning is a thing of the past. We need to get smart!
