Exclamation engine and batt light came on.. worry?

I bought a 1200 Custom earlier this month.. ride it at least a good hour or so every couple days.. have 650mi on it in about 3 weeks. LOVE IT...

out earlier today for a cruise.. noticed the battery and engine lights were on.. pulled into a empty lot, shut her down in N and did a off bike inspection. All seems fine and was riding fine with no hiccups..

Fired back up and within a few minutes same 2 lights back on.. after another 5 minutes.. off and never came back on during trip back home.

I have another 350mi til the 1k mile service -- anyone else ever had this happen? should I charge battery for an hour or two - never have, but thought riding it without a lot of down time should not have me in need of this yet.

Current plan is to ride again later today and see if recurs.. if not.. may just chalk it up to a ghost bug and forgettaboutit -- but if recurs will call HD - unless some one here has advice or experience with something weird like this..

thanks in advance - Ive learned so much just being on here a few weeks.

Take it down to the dealer and have them check it for codes. The two lights indicate that the ecu is reading a code.

There is a Service Bulletin out on the 2012 voltage regulators.

It's the voltage regulator. If you continue to ride it like that it will leave you stranded. happened to my wife's 1200 Custom exactly as you described. Take it to the dealer. There is a service bullitin on the voltage regulator. They will replace it.

Did the same to me on 2012 883. They told me two weeks to fix... I called factory and they over nighted the part... had it back the next day!

you guys were spot on..
took in this am and they had a new VR in house - put the new one on in 30 min.. got to say Im impressed with the dealership as I just drove in this am and within 5 minutes they waited on me and I walked over the MCDs next door, had a cup of coffee and got a call ready to go..
Had some parts come in too.. so they are actually working me in today to get those put on while there and it will only be a few hours.. have to give a shout out to Pat Rogers Speedway HD in Concord! Great guys, super service .. so far I am very pleased. Made this issue with my ride much less unpleasant with their customer service.
