I take it the bike is not running? Where in NJ? And you should do what you like and what is in your budget. If you are new to bikes, stick with stock for now.
With such little information, the best pointer I can give is to plan your build, plan some more, and then continue planning. Have the details mapped out before you begin. Do not rush.

thanks for the input im not new to bikes but im not that experienced with them i like the bobber look but i dont know if i want to put a hardtail or get it original, i know usually things that are stock are worth more but alot of people told me this bike wouldnt be worth that much if it was restored. I'll upload some pics soon

If you'd ever ridden a hard-tail bike, you wouldn't be askin' that question. Keep your rear suspension.
