These for the last 12k miles...

Let's just say no one mistakes me for a biker and I'm totally fine with that.

I wear timberlands. Was not a result of research, it is just what I owned when I recently bought my Sporty. The toe is pretty thick and I find that I need to work sometimes to get it under the shifter. I am thinking about buying something different so this thread helps!

Look into some old school jungle boots. They are lighter than normal military boots ans have a thinner lug style sole. That's what I wear!

And if you're worried about your feet being thoroughly soaked in the rain because of the side vents a little clear silicone caulk over the the side vents will seal them.

OK, you come in to your house and go to where you usually take of your shoes after a long day. You gently put your toe of your other foot on the heel of your sneakers and with very little effort the shoes slip off with ease.

Now, when you get in a crash (notice I said WHEN NOT IF) your sneakers are going to come off just as easy. And the only thing that will be between you and the road that makes the roughest sandpaper feel like silk is your socks (that is IF you wear socks).

I have a few other friends that were as ignorant as you sneaker/flip flop/and bare foot riders out there. One had no skin left on the one side of either foot. They had to talk massive amounts of skin from other parts of his body to put over his feet. Others have had so much damage to their feet they have a hard time walking on them anymore. And one that had his left foot ground down so far they had to remove it.

I say if you want to ride with basically not foot protection at all, fine, but please make sure you have enough insurance coverage to pay the tens of thousands of dollars to pay for all the medical WHEN you get in an accident so I don't have to pay for it in increased taxes to cover the welfare and medical and disability you will be needing.

Oh, by the way, I wear these:
