Default 08 Nightster Rear Wheel to Front?

I have been looking into moving a rear wheel to the front of my Nightster.
I'm not too concerned with how to get the wider wheel to fit; I am wondering if the hub for the rear has the same specs (for the bearings/axle) as the front or if I would need to fit a front hub to a 16x3 rim and buy new spokes.

If I do go the route of buying a rim are there diffrent 40 spoke patterns that I need to watch out for or does one 40 spoke rim fit all 40 spoke hubs?

Disclamer: I am fairly new to the terminology, be gentle if I got it wrong.

Not all 40 spoke rims fit all 40 spoke hubs, they are drilled so the angle of the spokes match the spoke pattern and where they are going to on the hub. However it shouldn't be difficult to get the correct rim as there are zillions of Harley spoked wheels out there! If you are going to have the wheel built, talk to the builder first.

if wanting a new wider front why not just get a 48 tree and wheel setup?

Pretty sure the 48 is a 32 spoke wheel. Beyond that new front ends cost a good chunk of cash.

When you put that wide of a tire up front it does not matter where it came from you will have no choice but address the issue of the width. ( "I'm not too concerned with how to get the wider wheel to fit") Seems the 48 set up would most likely be the least painful way to go in the long run.

I already have a couple of options I am considering as far as widing the front end, thats why I am not concerned with that part of it.

I am just looking into what needs to happen to fit a stock rear rim to the front; with or without changing the hub.
