Just installed drag pipes, 2 questions
#21
Just something I've never messed with, don't know why. Heck, I can change a motor in a car, swap transmissions, change camshafts, etc. Just never tore a carb apart. From reading the link that xFreebirdx posted, I'd have to say that my carb is adjusted correctly, considering how it runs/performs. I'll snug up all of the drag pipe hardware tonight after work and take her for a spin to see how it acts. I've seen videos of guys' sporsters shooting flames out the tailpipes, but mine doesn't do that. It was just a faint, small, blue flash or "blip" inside the pipe, no popping, backfiring, and so on. We'll see. Thanks John Harper.

Just in case anyone was wondering, everything went surprisingly well! No idle issues, sputtering, dying, etc. No backfiring, carb farts, loss of power, misfiring and so on. Power feels better, bike accelerates smoothly, I'm very happy. The only drawback is that the dog gone things get HOT. Wow! Anybody got some heat shields!?!

As to header wrap causing "premature failure and breakage" - I'd be real interested to hear the empirical data behind that, your is the first mention I've heard. The wrap will indeed gunk up the finish, but, my bikes are all old, and the finish isn't too great to begin with.
