Just sounds like it was a little rich and you need to tune your carb maybe

Drag pipes are fine if that is what you want it's not going to magically turn your bike into crap like some people make them out to be

Yeah you'll lose a little performance I won't argue that fact

Just my opinion to trying to start an exhaust flame war which is how these posts end up usually

Good luck and let us know how it turned out

I understand that point too, and I agree with you. I'll retighten the flange nuts this evening after work and take it for a short spin and we'll see. I'm told torque cones help greatly in offsetting the lack of baffles too, so we'll find out. It idled fine and throttle response while sitting was no different than with the previous pipes, which is good. It didn't seem to be misfiring either. I know nothing about adjusting the carb so I guess I have to call the dealer. Yay.

Check this site out before you call the dealer. They have everything you need to know about your CV carb.

Dude, you are AWESOME! See, if you would have come up here a few months back to help my swap my wheels (if you remember that), I could have given you a few more beers....

If you can put on pipes, you can definitely tune your carb. Have some trust in yourself. Heck, you got two adjusting screws and a narrow range of jet choices, pretty basic.

Just something I've never messed with, don't know why. Heck, I can change a motor in a car, swap transmissions, change camshafts, etc. Just never tore a carb apart. From reading the link that xFreebirdx posted, I'd have to say that my carb is adjusted correctly, considering how it runs/performs. I'll snug up all of the drag pipe hardware tonight after work and take her for a spin to see how it acts. I've seen videos of guys' sporsters shooting flames out the tailpipes, but mine doesn't do that. It was just a faint, small, blue flash or "blip" inside the pipe, no popping, backfiring, and so on. We'll see. Thanks John Harper.

Yeah drag pipes are fine. Just bought an 883 that had them on, no baffles or mufflers. Not only does it sound like a beast but it also has way better response than my friends newer 883 with stock exhaust.

Had to rejet mine and rebuild carb. Mines a 1993 and wouldnt idle without choke or throttle ...threw a 45 pilot and 170 main jet and it runs amazing. If youre going for loud drag pipes will get you there and I have no negative effects

Thanks Punisherdave. Mine idles fine with no choke and no throttle. Idles like a sewing machine, actually. Just didn't want to ride in to hurt anything. Now, that's all I can think about is blasting down the road.

Yeah loud pipes arent for everyone but i love it. Sounds like an old muscle car. But like others stated sounds like you just need some carb adjusting. If youve done car engines you can do a carb, not many parts to em. Enjoy the pipes bro!
