Deciding between the 883 and the 1200

RE: Deciding between the 883 and the 1200
I guess the rate structure insurance companies follow are not 'standard' by any means.
Around here the rate you pay is based on many factors; age of driver, if they have completed a course such as the MSF Basic program, prior driving history, where you live, and of course the model and year of the bike.
But the rate structure for a 2007 883 would be exactly the same as a 2007 1200.
Agents I know have told me there is a rate for bikes with less than 750cc, and a different rate for bikes over 750cc.

I love my 883c, but if I had it to do over again I would definitly go with the 1200. Mainly for the power but I also like the blacked out engine. I assure you, you can still get your self in touble with an 883. It is completly your choice the 883 is great but everyone I know either wants to convert or has converted to a 1200.
Good luck

RE: Deciding between the 883 and the 1200
This is my first bike ( 03 1200C Anniv. Ed.)and I got it used with 2000 miles on it and paid the same as I would have for an 883 new. The deals are out there just need to look around, only benefit of new is the warranty. My bike looked like it was hardly used for 2000 mi. Always nice to have the power on the throttle when you want it. as for gas....when it only costs 8.00 to fill up whats the difference, not like a Chevy cavalier and a Hummer comparison. Good Luck!

It's hard to believe so many people think almost 900cc's of power is like, nothing. I suppose it's what bike you've had before.I based my decision on road tests I saw, they all said the 883 could the same with a little more rpm's and it didn't vibrate as much as the 1200's where viration got to the pegs and seat.

RE: Deciding between the 883 and the 1200
I bought an '03 883 with real low kms. The original owner didn't like it and traded it for a BT. After having ridden only metrics I wanted to try Harley to see if they were for me, jap and Harley are different, and didn't want to spend $20k+ only to regret it and return to metrics. Well I really like my 883, itgets me go where I want to go, can cruise at a speed I'm comfortable doing and on occasion when the wife comes along for a rideit accomodates her easily. For me,my motorcycle ismy toy and not my principal means of transportation so I'm content withthe 883 and I spend my extra change putting do-dads on it.

I have a question for you. Why do you ask, when you already know the answer? I think you are just looking for that extra little validation push. You know you really want the 1200. Go for it! Think about this… one of the “pro’s” for the 883 is the ability to upgrade it later to a 1200. Case closed.. see.. you are already thinking about it, and you want it! A “con” for the 1200 is the $1,900 difference in price. Get a price on the upgrade. You’ll find out that with parts AND labor, the $1,900 is a bargain!
