I've had my clutch pack apart several times, once to replace discs, few times to test different diaphragm springs, and once for a billet pressure plate. I've NEVER needed to remove the hub or sprocket.
The older models require complete removal to disassemble the clutch pack. This was made easier in late model bikes. It's due to the way the adjusting screw is fixed. Newer bikes like mine, it's a circlip, but older bikes you have to access it when it's off the bike.

i was wondering the same thing. i bought a locking tool when i did my clutch only to find out i didn't need it. this is the one i got along with a clutch tool from amazon.

Thanks for the tip, scuba.

I'm not replacing my clutch pack...the ring gear behind the basket has come loose, so when you bump the starter, it turns the gear but just makes everything else shudder and jump around. Gotta reattach the gear so my rig will start.
