Default RE: Ignition

I'm told by a HD Tec, that the SE Ignition Module, listed for $119.00 is useless and a waste of money, the only perfomance gain it affords is rev limiter is increased. Save yer money.

Can we discuss this for a minute. If an ignition module will allow you to get a few more revs out of a gear(500 more with the SE over stock I believe?) then aren't you getting more from the engine power wise? It's just like not having full throttle capability on the carb. Once set to go the limit, would you be able to get an additional horse or 2? Realizing that going the limit all the time causes more stress on the engine of course.

Just because you can rev the motor to a higher RPM does not mean you are going to gain more hp. it is all about how you have your motor set up. if you are running cams that have a power band in the high rpm's then yes you could get a few more hp's out of it. but it you are going to spend the money to redo your motor why wouldn't you spend the extra few dollars and get a good ignition with good tuning capabilities. The SE unit is use, basically your paying 120 dollars to raise you rev limiter.

I can see where a tunable ignition would benefit in a situation like xl ocd stated, I thik the gains are more in the lines of a more effecient motor than instant horsepower.

Changing the ignition module isn't going to give you a hotter spark. Changing the coil will. But it's my opinion that the stock coil is hot enough for all but the most severe engine mods.
