Ok, my girlfriend really wants to ride on the back of the sporty. I took her for a ride on my dads dyna and she loved it and wont leave me alone about setting the sportster up for 2 up ridding. So I already have a mustangseat that has a spot for a passenger. I want to get a removable sissy bar. I dont really care for the way they look and i doubt she will be on the back a lot. What do you guys suggest? Cheaper the better. Also i will need to get rear pegs. Where should i look for these? Also i have the 883. Will this be ok for 2 up rides? Im about 190 and she pulls in about 120lbs. And i doubt it would be very long rides. Just looking for suggestions, thanks!

 

I would go to the local stealer and see if they had any take off pegs, as far as the sissy bar I find them quite usefull for strapping things to the bike and have mine permnantly attached. I did see a place on ebay that makes a detachable sissy bar , check there

 

I also have an 883 and use it a lot for 2 up with my wife im 200 and shes about 130 and the bike handles us fine so you should have no problem. Igot my passenger peg kit from my local H-D dealer cost about $60 with the pegs. As far as the sissy bar goes I never put one on, so I can't help you there.

 

I love the removeable sissy bar, I put a luggage rack on mine. I like it because when we ride 2 up she will always want to stop and buy somehting... so a back bag on the back is great. The best part, it comes off.

I bought mine from the dealer. I looked around and couldnt figure out other brands and how they fit, so I went witht the harley parts.

If you don't really want the sissy bar, and she won't be riding that much, I'd first try her riding without one. Adding the passenger seat and footpegs isn't too expensive. But to add the sissy bar can start to add up. First you have to add sideplates, then the sissy bar itself, and probably then some type of backrest pad. The pegs can easily be found for probably around less than $100. But the sideplates alone I think are around $125, then all the other parts I mentioned.

Only suggestion I would make as far as the extra weight on the bike is to tighten up the rear shocks. There are 4 or 5 settings on the rear shocks. From the dealer, they are normally set at the softest setting. And NO, you don't need the "special Harley tool" to adjust the shocks. Just a good set of LARGE channel locks.

The bikes that are sold with solo seats don't have passenger pegs.

 

Get friendly with one of the local service techs and he may "loan"you a set of stock pegs from an upgraded bike; might cost you a beer or two[sm=icon_cheers.gif]. As for the sissybar, the detachable is OK, though the attachment clip rattles a bit at the docking pin. You could just forget the bar, use the $$ to buy her a set of leathers that best accent her features, if you get my drift[sm=drooldude.gif], and tell her to just hang on a little tighter (oh yeah).

 

I have a 1200 Custom and I put on a Sundowner seat and the detachable sissy bar setup. The whole sissy bar / sideplates / pad was pretty expensive (around $350) but I believe it was worth it. The wife definitely prefers to ride with the bar and I use it to attach a backpack or bag when travelling to work. I prefer the look of the rigid setup, but I think having the option to quickly remove thebar (and any packs or bags attached to it) is great. I think I'm eventually going to pick up a luggage rack and some throwover bags.It's also easy to change the look of the bike - I can switchback to the original seat (with no sissy bar) in a few minutes. If you decide to add a setup to your bike, I'd recommend shopping around some dealerships before you buy. Some are running off-season specials and I got mine for 25% off the parts and 20% off labor.
