CA emissions carb/air cleaner question
i want to change out my STOCK AC to the mreed AC but when i pulled off the stock AC backing plate, there were 2 hoses coming off the backing plate. one of the hoses was for vapors and it ran to the bottom of the frame to the small cannister under the bike. i pulled this hose off the bike.
the second hose went from the backing plate to the bottom of the carb. i believe its the carb overflow hose. can i rip this one off too? i think its there to drain any extra fuel, so if dont want fuel to dump all over my hot engine. some one told suggested to run the hose to the bottom of the frame, but it isnt long enough to do that. what have you guys done with this hose?

On my 1991, the carb overflow/vent hose goes to the VOVS (not the VOES). The VOVS uses the same vacuum feed as the VOES, so there is a T that splits the vacuum. The VOVS opens when engine is running to vent the float bowl. Sounds like they did away with the VOVS sometime after 1991 I guess. You can just use some spare vacuum line to route down under the frame, or just leave it vented to atmosphere. I doubt it would be a problem just left alone. You can also ditch the carbon can and tank vent hose too. I just put a small vacuum cap that I sliced with a razor blade so it will vent excess pressure from the tank. Unless you really overfill your tank, I've never had any gas spill out through this vacuum cap.
