1st. You can take the sporty to 50 in first gear, but hold on. When the bike hits the right rpm, it will tell you. You will just feel the power and it might just scare you the first time. Hit second, the front will jump and the bike bike will keep pulling like never before. Experiment. Listen to the bike. No tach needed.

Regarding the slipons. They alone are not causing your bike to run lean. Check your plugs they will tell you if you are running lean. You might need some xieds or a pcv or fuelpak or whatever choice of fuel management device you want.
